IELTS has a live Speaking interview with an examiner. PTE Academic uses a computer-based integrated test with microphone responses. Practise official samples before deciding which experience suits you.

Both assess English ability. Individual strengths in speaking, listening, typing and exam familiarization affect preparation needs. Switching tests does not automatically solve weak skills.
