2026 provider-quality transition: TrustEd Ireland

QQI authorised the first 28 higher-education institutions to use the TrustEd Ireland quality mark in February 2026 and the first English-language providers in August 2026. The old ILEP framework is being replaced as the TrustEd rollout completes, so provider eligibility should be checked against current official sources.

BANGLADESH ELIGIBILITY

Ireland does not use one national HSC or CGPA rule.

Institutions set their own entry requirements. Some Bangladesh HSC applicants use foundation routes, while postgraduate thresholds depend on degree structure and each university’s equivalency policy.

HSC

HSC can lead to Foundation rather than direct Bachelor at selective universities.

Trinity College Dublin currently publishes HSC 70%+ including key subjects for its International Foundation Programme. Direct undergraduate admission from Bangladesh uses Trinity’s recognised international qualifications rather than HSC alone.

Foundation

Foundation is a real Irish pathway.

Immigration policy recognises foundation programmes linked to conditional progression into eligible Level 8, 9 or 10 higher-education study.

Bachelor

Four-year Bangladesh degrees are widely relevant for Masters assessment.

University of Galway currently publishes a 4-year Bachelor benchmark of about 60% / GPA 3.0 for 2:2-equivalent programs and higher thresholds for 2:1 programs.

Masters

University equivalency can differ.

Maynooth currently publishes 4-year Honours Bachelor from a recognised Bangladesh university at GPA 3.0/4.0 or 60% for a 2H2 equivalent and 3.4/4.0 or 68% for 2H1.

Low CGPA

Choose the institution and NFQ level strategically.

A postgraduate diploma, different institution or more suitable program may be realistic where a competitive direct Masters route is not.

Study Gap

Ireland explicitly asks applicants to account for education gaps.

Visa guidance requires applicants to explain gaps since full-time education and provide employment history where employment filled the gap.

NFQ LEVELS

The qualification level changes your graduate permission.

Level 6Higher CertificateUsually 2 years. Graduate-route eligibility differs from Level 8/9 awards.
Level 7Ordinary BachelorNormally 3 years. Does not receive the same Third Level Graduate Programme benefit as Level 8/9.
Level 8Honours BachelorEligible graduates can receive up to 12 months on Stamp 1G.
Level 9Master’s / PG DiplomaEligible graduates can receive up to 24 months on Stamp 1G in two 12-month blocks.
Level 10DoctoralDoctoral graduates can also access the Level 9+ graduate-permission framework.
PROVIDERS · TRUSTED IRELAND

Do not choose an Irish college only because an agent says it is “approved.”

Check current eligibility through TrustEd Ireland / QQI and official immigration sources. The ILEP transition makes old screenshots and old agency lists increasingly unreliable.

INTAKES

September is the main Irish intake. January exists, but is narrower.

SecondaryJanuaryAvailable at selected providers/programs, especially postgraduate/private-sector offerings.
ScholarshipsApply earlyGovernment and institutional scholarship deadlines can precede course deadlines.
VisaUp to 3 months before travelISD says long-term study visa applications can be made up to three months before travel.
IELTS · PTE · ENGLISH

The institution sets course English requirements.

Irish immigration also expects evidence that you can undertake the chosen course through English or Irish, but universities set the practical admissions scores.

University admission

IELTS, TOEFL and PTE are widely used. Scores vary by institution and program, and some courses require higher component scores.

Visa evidence

The long-term study-visa process requires evidence of language ability appropriate to the program. Do not assume admission and immigration evidence are always identical.

MONEY & STUDENT FINANCE

For a one-year course, the immigration living-funds benchmark is €10,000.

Financial requirement

Course over 8 months€10,000
Course 8 months or less€833 / month
Maximum short-course amount€6,665
Later study years€10,000 each year + fees

ISD says visa-required students must demonstrate immediate access to €10,000 and credible access to the same level for each subsequent year, in addition to course fees.
TUITION

Ireland tuition varies sharply by subject.

Medicine / Health€11,000–€30,000

These are Education in Ireland planning ranges. Always confirm the current course fee on the institution’s own page.

LIVING COST & ACCOMMODATION

Dublin housing can change the economics of the whole plan.

Dublin

Largest university and employer market, but housing demand and rents are among Ireland’s biggest student challenges.

Cork / Galway / Limerick

Major student cities with strong universities and generally different housing markets from Dublin.

On-campus residence

Convenient and secure, but often high demand. Education in Ireland notes many residences use two large instalments rather than monthly rent.

Private shared housing

Can reduce cost, but scams and availability are serious practical issues. Verify accommodation before transferring money.

SCHOLARSHIPS

The Government of Ireland scholarship is one of the strongest national awards.

GOI-IES 2026

60 awards for one year of full-time study at NFQ Level 9 or 10. The scholarship provides a €10,000 stipend and the host institution must give a full fee waiver for that scholarship year.

University scholarships

Trinity, UCD, UCC, Galway, Maynooth, UL, DCU and others offer international merit or program-specific scholarships.

Research funding

PhD and research Master’s applicants should separately compare funded projects, supervisor grants and doctoral scholarships.

LONG STAY D STUDY VISA

From Irish admission to Stamp 2 registration.

01

Choose an eligible full-time program

Verify the provider/program under the current TrustEd/ILEP transition rules.

02

Offer / acceptance

Meet academic, English and program-specific conditions and obtain the official acceptance letter.

03

Pay required tuition

If fees are under €6,000, pay in full before visa; if over €6,000, immigration requires at least €6,000 paid, though the college can require more.

04

Prepare finances & documents

Show €10,000 living funds, tuition evidence, bank history, sponsor/source-of-funds documents, academic ability, language and gap/employment evidence.

05

Private medical insurance

Non-EEA students need private medical insurance for study in Ireland.

06

Apply through AVATS

Complete the online long-stay visa application, print/sign the summary form and follow the submission instructions generated for your location.

07

Visa decision & travel

A visa lets you travel to Ireland; final entry permission is decided at border control.

08

Register after arrival

Students staying over 90 days must register their immigration permission and receive the appropriate residence permission, normally Stamp 2 for eligible full-time study.

VISA & REGISTRATION COSTS

Visa fee and residence registration are separate.

Single-entry visa

€60 standard Irish visa fee, subject to exemptions and local submission charges.

Multiple-entry visa

€100 standard fee where a multiple-entry visa is applicable.

Immigration registration

€300 registration fee for student residence permission / IRP, subject to applicable exemptions.

DOCUMENTS · BANGLADESH

Ireland explicitly looks at academic ability, finances and education gaps.

Academic & admission

Passport, acceptance letter, SSC/HSC or previous degree certificates and transcripts, English evidence, CV, references, SOP/personal statement or course-specific portfolio/research documents.

Study gap & employment

Explain every period since your last full-time education. Where employment fills the gap, provide job certificate, experience letters, salary evidence and other supporting records.

Financial evidence

Six months of bank transactions, tuition payment, sponsor bank/income/employment/business evidence, scholarship or loan evidence and proof of source for large or unusual deposits.

Sponsor relationship

If family is funding you, make the relationship and sponsor documents easy to understand. Financial documents should clearly belong to the stated sponsor.

Private medical insurance

Insurance must cover the required period and include medical/accident and hospital treatment. It is checked for the visa/registration process.

Police clearance

Do not automatically add a police certificate just because another country requires one. Follow the current Irish long-stay study visa checklist and any additional request made in your own case.

SPOUSE & FAMILY

Ordinary Stamp 2 students generally cannot sponsor family reunification.

Most students

ISD states that family members are generally not permitted to join non-EEA students on Stamp 2, 2A, 1A or graduate Stamp 1G merely because of that student permission.

PhD exception

PhD student permission holders can fall within specific family-reunification categories, subject to the separate policy conditions.

Scholarship exceptions

Certain ISD-approved scholarship programs can also have different family rules.

WORK WHILE STUDYING · STAMP 2

20 hours in term, 40 hours in the defined holiday periods.

20 hours / week

Eligible Stamp 2 students can work up to 20 hours per week while studying.

40-hour periods

Up to 40 hours per week is allowed during June, July, August and September, and from 15 December to 15 January.

Study remains primary

You must demonstrate finances without relying on casual work. Employment should not undermine attendance or academic progression.

HEALTH INSURANCE

Private health insurance is compulsory for non-EEA students.

Visa + registration

Proof is required for the student immigration process and should cover accidents, illness and hospital stays in Ireland.

Renewal

For residence-permission renewal, ISD requires private medical insurance covering the residence period; basic travel insurance is not sufficient for renewal.

THIRD LEVEL GRADUATE PROGRAMME

Stamp 1G gives eligible Irish graduates time to move into graduate employment.

EMPLOYMENT PERMITS

Stamp 1G is the bridge. A work permit can be the longer-term route.

Critical Skills

Critical Skills Employment Permit

For qualifying high-skill occupations and salary thresholds. From March 2026 the standard relevant-degree threshold is about €40,904, with a lower recent-graduate threshold around €36,848.

General

General Employment Permit

Broader eligible occupations subject to permit rules and salary thresholds. The 2026 general threshold is €36,605, with a lower recent-Irish-graduate threshold of €34,009.

Critical Skills List

Occupation matters.

The Critical Skills Occupations List was updated in May 2026 and includes qualifying ICT, engineering, healthcare and other shortage roles.

Employment permits ↗
LONG-TERM RESIDENCE REALITY

An Irish degree is not permanent residence.

Student time is limited

Stamp 2 is a temporary student permission and is not reckonable in the same way as employment residence for ordinary citizenship-by-naturalisation calculations.

Work permission changes the pathway

Graduates normally need to move from Stamp 1G into a qualifying employment permission or another eligible residence category for longer-term stay.

CITIES

Ireland is small, but cost and opportunity vary substantially by city.

Dublin

Largest concentration of universities, technology companies and graduate employers — also the most difficult housing market.

Cork

Major university city with technology, pharmaceuticals, food and services employment.

Galway

Strong student identity, medical-device/technology cluster and University of Galway.

Limerick

University and technological education with lower-scale city living and major industry links.

Maynooth

University town with access to the wider Dublin employment region.

Regional campuses

ATU and MTU campuses broaden options beyond the major cities and can change accommodation costs significantly.

ARRIVAL

Your student visa is only the first immigration step.

Before departure

Passport, Irish visa, acceptance letter, tuition evidence, finances, insurance, accommodation and university arrival instructions.

At the border

The immigration officer decides entry and gives temporary permission. Carry your university and financial documents in hand luggage.

First weeks

Complete university registration, arrange immigration registration / IRP, banking, phone, transport and health-insurance administration.

Working

Apply for a PPS Number when needed for employment/tax and make sure your Stamp 2 conditions allow the work you intend to do.
