Bangladesh school certificates now need recognition attention before Bachelor admission

Since the 2025 student-visa reforms, many third-country secondary certificates that are not automatically recognised require a NAWA individual recognition statement for first-cycle admission. Bangladesh certificates fall into the group that should be checked through NAWA/SYRENA unless another recognition basis applies.

BANGLADESH ELIGIBILITY

Poland does not use one national HSC percentage or CGPA cut-off.

Universities decide admission, but foreign-school recognition rules determine whether your certificate can legally support first-cycle admission.

HSC

Check NAWA recognition before Bachelor admission.

For third-country school certificates not covered by automatic recognition, the NAWA Director’s individual recognition statement is required for first-cycle or long-cycle study admission.

SYRENA

Recognition statements are free.

NAWA issues individual secondary-school recognition statements digitally through the SYRENA system after the required documents are submitted.

Bachelor

The university still sets academic entry.

Recognition gives legal access to apply; it does not guarantee admission. The university can still set grades, subjects, language and entrance requirements.

Masters

A recognised foreign Bachelor can give access to second-cycle study.

If the foreign degree gives access to the next level of higher education in the country where it was issued, it can generally support access to corresponding study in Poland, subject to university requirements.

Language

English or Polish depends on the programme.

English-taught programmes require accepted English evidence; Polish-taught programmes require the institution’s Polish-language standard.

Study Gap

Keep the academic story coherent.

Visa officers can assess the credibility of the study purpose, so employment, previous education and future plans should connect logically to the chosen programme.

POLISH HIGHER EDUCATION

Public, private and specialised universities all operate under the national higher-education system.

Public universities

Research and academic institutions including Warsaw, Jagiellonian, Wrocław, AGH and major technical/economic universities.

Private universities

Non-public institutions can offer Bachelor, Master and professional study. Tuition and reputation vary significantly.

Technical universities

Politechnika institutions specialise in engineering, IT, architecture and applied sciences.

Full-time status matters

Immigration and work rights discussed on this page mainly refer to full-time higher education. Part-time, postgraduate and other education can use different residence rules.

Institution decides

Universities set accepted English certificates and minimum levels. B2 is a common academic benchmark, but programme rules are decisive.

Visa consistency

Your language ability should make sense for the language of instruction stated in the admission documents and may be assessed during the visa process.

MONEY & FINANCIAL MEANS

Polish student finance is calculated after accommodation and tuition obligations.

Current residence-finance benchmark

Single student living amountPLN 1,010 / month
Student + dependant benchmarkPLN 823 each / month
Return to non-EU countryPLN 2,500
Tuition + accommodationAdditional

Do not use the old PLN 776 figure for residence planning.

The MOS 2026 study guidance uses PLN 1,010/month for a student without dependants after actual housing costs are deducted. Older materials still show PLN 776, so use the current procedure guidance for residence applications.

TUITION

Poland remains relatively affordable compared with much of Western Europe.

Official planning guidance

First / second / long-cycle average≈ €2,000 / year
Typical overall range€2,000–€6,000 / year
MBA example≈ €8,000–€12,000 / year

The university sets the actual fee.

Public and private institutions determine tuition based on the programme and cost of education. Medicine, dentistry and specialist programmes can be much higher than the general range.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Bangladesh is not currently eligible for the 2026 Banach NAWA call.

Banach NAWA 2026

The 2026/27 Banach programme offers PLN 2,500/month, public-university tuition exemption and travel support — but Bangladesh is not on the current eligible-country list.

University scholarships

Polish universities offer their own Rector’s awards, merit scholarships, tuition discounts and faculty funding depending on programme and student status.

Doctoral schools

Full-time doctoral schools are tuition-free and doctoral candidates receive a scholarship under the Polish doctoral-school system.

D-TYPE NATIONAL STUDY VISA

Bangladesh study visas are handled under the Polish mission in New Delhi.

01

Recognition where required

Complete NAWA school-certificate recognition before first-cycle admission when the certificate is not automatically recognised.

02

University admission

Obtain the Polish university’s admission documents and satisfy tuition/language requirements.

03

Register through e-Konsulat

Study-visa appointment registration is done through e-Konsulat. Study slots are allocated in registration order under the current New Delhi process.

04

Complete VFS form

Study applicants also complete the additional VFS online form before submission.

05

Prepare finances & insurance

Document tuition, living funds, return travel and compliant medical insurance.

06

Submit in person

Bangladeshi nationals fall under the Embassy of Poland in New Delhi’s national-visa jurisdiction and submit through the instructed VAC process.

07

Visa decision

The ordinary national-visa decision time is 15 days after admissible submission, with extension possible in justified cases.

08

Travel & legalise stay

After arrival, use the visa and then apply through the appropriate Polish residence process if you need to stay beyond the visa period.

MOS · TEMPORARY RESIDENCE

From 27 April 2026, Polish residence applications moved online.

MOS only

Temporary residence, permanent residence and long-term EU resident applications are now submitted electronically through the MOS portal.

University signs an attachment

For a study residence permit, the university must electronically complete/sign the relevant attachment in the MOS workflow.

Fees

MOS guidance states that residence-permit stamp duty varies by permit, while the residence card fee is generally PLN 100. Student/graduate permits use the applicable procedure-specific stamp duty.

DOCUMENTS · BANGLADESH

Poland now separates recognition, university admission and visa documentation more clearly.

School recognition

HSC/secondary certificate, transcript and the documents required by NAWA/SYRENA for an individual recognition statement where applicable.

University admission

Recognised school certificate or previous degree, academic transcripts, English/Polish evidence, passport, application documents and programme-specific requirements.

Study visa

Passport, admission, tuition/payment evidence, financial means, insurance, accommodation and the current D-type study checklist for the Polish mission handling Bangladesh.

Insurance

Long-stay entrants need sickness insurance or compliant travel medical insurance. The long-stay entry standard includes medical coverage of at least €30,000 where travel medical insurance is used.

Residence permit

MOS application, passport scans, photo, fee proof, university electronic attachment, finance, tuition, insurance and housing-cost evidence under the current study procedure.

SPOUSE & FAMILY

Family reunification is a separate residence route and is not automatic for every student.

Separate application

A spouse or child uses the applicable Polish family-reunification route rather than being automatically added to the student permit.

Student's residence basis matters

The student must hold a residence status that gives a right to family reunification under the Foreigners Act. Eligibility can depend on the exact permit and duration of stay.

Income, insurance and housing

Family applications can require stable income, health insurance and accommodation, plus genuine relationship documents translated into Polish where required.

WORK WHILE STUDYING

Full-time students can work without a separate work permit.

No work permit

If you hold a Polish visa for full-time studies or the corresponding temporary residence permit, you can work without a separate work permit.

No fixed national student-hour cap

Unlike many European countries, Poland does not impose a specific 15/20-hour statutory student work limit under this exemption. Your studies still need to remain genuine and full-time.

Pending residence application

You can continue to benefit from the work exemption while waiting for the study residence permit if you applied legally and the application is complete or corrected on time.

Official student-work guidance ↗
HEALTH INSURANCE

Non-EU students need valid medical coverage throughout their stay.

Before / during entry

Use compliant international/private insurance or other accepted sickness insurance meeting the visa/residence requirements.

Voluntary NFZ

Non-EU students can join Poland’s National Health Fund voluntarily. The special 2026 student contribution is currently PLN 55.80 per month.

AFTER STUDY

Polish graduates can receive a 9-month job-search / business-start permit.

Graduate residence permit

Length9 months
How many timesOnce
PurposeFind work / start business
ApplicationImmediately after graduation

Graduates of Polish full-time higher education can work without a work permit.

Once you graduate from qualifying Polish full-time university study, the work-permit exemption for graduates can apply. You still need a legal residence basis.

If you have already started work or already have an employer ready to employ you, the dedicated graduate job-search permit is not the correct route; another work/residence permit may be appropriate.
LONG-TERM WORK & RESIDENCE

Study is not permanent residence. The long-term pathway starts with the right residence status after graduation.

Temporary residence and work

Graduates moving into employment can use the relevant temporary residence and work route where the conditions are met.

EU Blue Card

Highly qualified employment can use Poland’s EU Blue Card framework when job, qualification and salary conditions are met.

Long-term EU resident

Long-term residence is a separate route based on qualifying legal residence and other requirements. Student residence does not simply convert automatically into permanent status.

CITIES

Poland offers very different study and cost environments across major cities.

Warsaw

Largest employer market, major universities and the highest housing costs in Poland.

Kraków

Large international student city with Jagiellonian, AGH and a strong technology/business-services sector.

Wrocław

Technology, engineering and international-company ecosystem with a large student population.

Gdańsk / Tri-City

Maritime, technology, logistics and international-business opportunities.

Poznań

Major university and business centre with generally lower costs than Warsaw.

Łódź

Large student city with creative, medical, business and technology study options.

ARRIVAL

After Visa D approval, prepare early for your residence and university setup.

Before departure

Passport, D visa, university admission, tuition evidence, insurance, finances, housing and copies of recognition documents.

University registration

Complete enrolment, student ID and orientation immediately after arrival.

Residence planning

If you need to stay beyond the visa period, start the MOS residence application early and allow time for the university’s electronic attachment.

Working

Keep proof that you are in qualifying full-time studies and understand Polish tax, social-security and employment-contract rules before starting a job.
