Bachelor admission can require both recognition and university-access processing

For many students educated outside Spain, the school certificate must first be recognised as equivalent to the Spanish Bachillerato and then university access may involve UNEDasiss accreditation, grade conversion and sometimes PCE exams or subject recognition depending on the university.

BANGLADESH ELIGIBILITY

Spain does not use one national HSC percentage or CGPA cut-off.

Admission depends on the university, degree and whether you are applying to Bachelor, Master or Doctoral study.

HSC

Bachelor applicants may need homologación.

Bangladesh HSC usually needs to be evaluated for equivalence to the Spanish Bachillerato before or alongside the university-access process.

UNEDasiss

Many universities use UNEDasiss accreditation.

UNEDasiss can convert prior grades into the Spanish access scale and identify which services are required for the specific university.

PCE

Competitive degrees may need extra admission points.

Students can take PCE subject exams to improve access scores where the university accepts them.

Masters

Master admission usually does not use the Bachelor homologación route.

The university evaluates whether your foreign Bachelor gives access to postgraduate study and whether your academic background matches the programme.

Language

Spanish or English depends on the programme.

Many Bachelor programmes are Spanish-taught. English-taught Master’s programmes are much more common.

Study Gap

Explain why this course fits your academic path.

The visa process can include an interview and can test whether your education, finances and study plan are credible.

HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM

Public universities, private universities and specialised schools all operate in Spain.

Public universities

Regionally funded institutions with generally lower tuition and broad Bachelor/Master/PhD study.

Private universities

Higher tuition, often more English-taught programmes, direct admissions and smaller cohorts.

Technical universities

Institutions such as UPM and UPC specialise heavily in engineering, architecture, computing and applied science.

Business schools

Spain also has globally known private business schools, but these can have very different fees and admission systems from public universities.

NATIONAL STUDY VISA · BANGLADESH

Spain has a dedicated study-visa route through BLS Dhaka.

01

Admission

Obtain acceptance into a recognised full-time higher-education programme and pay the required enrolment/tuition amount.

02

Prepare finances

Show 100% of IPREM for the student plus the applicable amount for accompanying family.

03

Health insurance

Use public or private insurance from an entity authorised to operate in Spain with coverage comparable to Spain’s public healthcare package.

04

Police + medical if required

For stays over six months, adult applicants need criminal-record evidence and the current long-stay checklist can require a medical certificate.

05

Book BLS Dhaka

National-visa applications are submitted at BLS in Banani by prior appointment under the Spanish Embassy in Dhaka.

06

Submit the national visa

Present the application, passport, admission, finance, insurance and Bangladesh-specific supporting documents. The consulate can request an interview.

07

Decision

The legal decision period is normally one month after submission, though interviews or further-document requests can extend processing.

08

Travel & TIE

If the study stay exceeds six months, the visa normally allows initial entry and the student must apply for the Foreigner Identity Card within one month of entering Spain.

VISA COSTS

Bangladesh uses a reciprocity-based visa fee.

Study visa fee

Spain’s Dhaka guidance says the general fee is equivalent to €80, but Bangladesh nationals are subject to a different reciprocity rate. Confirm the current BLS/Consular Office amount before submission.

BLS service charges

Visa Application Centre charges are separate from the consular visa fee.

TIE / local fees

Residence-card and local administrative charges after arrival are separate.

SPOUSE & FAMILY

Higher-education students can be accompanied by qualifying family, but family members cannot work.

Eligible family

Spouse, registered/stable partner and minor children or children needing support because of disability/illness can qualify under the current student-family rules.

Extra financial means

Add 75% of IPREM for the first family member and 50% for each additional family member.

No work authorisation

Family members holding the student-family visa or permit are not authorised to work during its validity.

WORK WHILE STUDYING

Higher-education students can generally work up to 30 hours per week.

30 hours/week maximum

Employment must remain compatible with the authorised studies and generally cannot exceed 30 hours per week.

Study remains the main purpose

Exceeding the permitted work limit can affect the validity of the study authorisation.

Employment and self-employment

Spanish rules allow access to employed or self-employed activity under the applicable study-authorisation conditions.

Official work rules ↗
HEALTH INSURANCE & TIE

Insurance is part of the visa. TIE is part of the long-stay setup.

Insurance

The policy must be valid for the stay and provide coverage comparable to Spain’s National Health System under the visa rules.

TIE

Students staying more than six months must apply for the Foreigner Identity Card within one month after entry into Spain.

AFTER STUDY

Spain now gives qualifying higher-education graduates up to 24 months to search for suitable work or start a business.

Graduate job-search residence

Maximum duration24 months
Minimum qualificationEQF Level 6 / university degree
PurposeJob search / business project
ExtendableNo

The job-search residence itself does not authorise work.

If you find suitable employment or establish a business project, you must switch into the corresponding work/residence authorisation before starting the activity.

WORK & LONG-TERM STAY

The real long-term route starts when you change from study into a qualifying residence/work status.

Employee residence/work

After completing qualifying study, students can modify into an employed-worker authorisation where the legal conditions are met.

Self-employment

Graduates can also move into self-employed residence where the business and financial requirements are satisfied.

Highly qualified routes

Highly qualified professional and EU Blue Card pathways can be relevant for suitable graduate-level employment.

Long-term residence

Permanent or long-term status is a separate legal route based on qualifying residence history and other conditions. A Spanish degree alone does not guarantee it.

CITIES

Spain’s cost difference between cities can be substantial.

Madrid

Largest university and employer market, with higher housing costs and broad English-taught postgraduate options.

Barcelona

Technology, business, design and research hub with high accommodation costs and multilingual study environment.

Valencia

Large student city with lower average living costs than Madrid/Barcelona and strong public universities.

Granada

Major student destination with comparatively affordable living and strong Spanish-language immersion.

Seville

Large public-university environment with lower housing costs than the two biggest metros.

Bilbao

Engineering, industry and business ecosystem in the Basque Country, with regional-language context.

ARRIVAL

For stays over six months, your TIE should be one of the first priorities.

Before departure

Passport, national visa, admission, insurance, finance evidence, accommodation and copies of academic recognition documents.

University enrolment

Complete final registration, student ID, course enrolment and international-office procedures.

Within 1 month

Apply for the TIE at the relevant Foreign Nationals Office or police station if your stay is longer than six months.

Working

Check the wording/conditions of your study authorisation, get the required tax/social-security setup and stay within the 30-hour maximum.
