Universitaly pre-enrolment is mandatory for ordinary university visa applications

For 2026/27, international students complete pre-enrolment through Universitaly. After the chosen institution validates the application, Bangladeshi applicants registered on Universitaly are contacted by VFS Global using the same email address to arrange student-visa submission.

BANGLADESH ELIGIBILITY

Italy does not use one national HSC percentage or CGPA cut-off.

The Italian university evaluates your foreign qualification and decides whether it is suitable for the programme.

Bachelor

12 years of schooling is the normal baseline.

Italy generally expects a foreign upper-secondary qualification obtained after at least 12 years of schooling and giving access to higher education in the awarding country. Bangladesh SSC + HSC normally meets the 12-year structure, subject to university evaluation.

University decision

Admission equivalency is not automatic.

The institution has exclusive responsibility for evaluating the qualification, subjects, grades and programme prerequisites.

Masters

A relevant first-cycle degree is assessed by the institution.

Universities review the Bachelor’s level, subject match, credits, grades and language. There is no national Bangladesh CGPA threshold.

CIMEA

Comparability and verification can support the file.

Universities and the Embassy can require CIMEA certification depending on the case.

Declaration of Value

Dhaka accepts DoV or CIMEA for authenticity.

The 2026 Embassy notice tells student-visa applicants to submit either a CIMEA certificate or a Declaration of Value as proof of authenticity of the study certificate.

Apostille

Bangladesh public documents now use the apostille route.

Since June 2025, Bangladesh public documents no longer need Embassy legalisation for this purpose; they need the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs apostille through MyGov where applicable.

UNIVERSITALY PRE-ENROLMENT

University admission is not the same thing as visa pre-enrolment.

Step 1 · University evaluation

Contact/apply to the institution according to its own procedure and obtain the academic approval it requires.

Step 2 · Universitaly

Create the online pre-enrolment application and upload the requested qualifications and documents.

Step 3 · University validation

The university validates the pre-enrolment and issues the eligibility-for-enrolment output required for the visa process.

Step 4 · Visa remains independent

Universitaly validation does not guarantee a visa. The Embassy independently assesses finances, authenticity, language and migration risk.

ITALIAN · IELTS · ENGLISH

The Dhaka student-visa checklist is stricter than many generic university pages.

English in the 2026 Dhaka checklist

If language has not already been verified by the university in Universitaly, the Embassy currently accepts IELTS only for English and requires a score of at least 6.

Italian / other European languages

The same checklist requires a recognised certificate no lower than B2 when the course is taught in Italian or another European language other than English.

Four skills must be clear

The Embassy’s 2026 notice says the certificate should clearly show proficiency in listening/oral comprehension, reading/written comprehension, speaking and writing.

MONEY & FINANCIAL MEANS

The 2026/27 university-study finance benchmark is about €848.25 per month.

2026/27 benchmark

Per month€848.25
Academic year€10,179.85
Return travelAdditional
Tuition / accommodationAdditional

Dhaka examines financial history, not just a closing balance.

The Embassy checklist requests the applicant’s personal bank statement from a bank operating in Bangladesh covering the previous 12 months, plus supporting evidence of solvency and return funds.

TUITION

Italy does not have one national international tuition fee.

Public universities

Public university tuition is generally lower than private institutions and can depend on programme and declared family income. Some universities use fixed non-EU country bands.

Private institutions

Private universities, business schools, design schools and specialised programmes can cost substantially more.

Regional tax / enrolment charges

Even students who receive tuition exemptions may still owe regional taxes or other university charges.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Italy has national scholarships and powerful regional right-to-study schemes.

MAECI 2026/27 · Bangladesh eligible

The Italian Embassy in Dhaka advertised MAECI scholarships worth €1,200 per month for eligible Master’s, AFAM, PhD, research and advanced Italian-language programmes.

Regional DSU / right-to-study support

Regions and universities run income/merit-based schemes that can include fee reduction, accommodation, meals and cash support. Rules differ by region.

University merit scholarships

Major universities such as Padua, Bologna, Politecnico di Milano and others offer institution-specific awards for international students.

CIMEA / Declaration of Value

The 2026 Dhaka Embassy notice requires either CIMEA certification or a Declaration of Value as proof of authenticity of the study certificate.

Language

If not already verified by the university on Universitaly, the current Dhaka checklist requires IELTS 6 minimum for English or B2 for Italian/other European-language study.

Applicant finance

Personal bank statement from a Bangladesh-operating bank covering the last 12 months, plus other solvency evidence and return-travel funds.

Sponsor finance

Where a sponsor is used, prepare relationship, identity, 12-month bank history and source-of-income/asset evidence according to the checklist.

Apostille / translation

Bangladesh public documents may need the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs apostille and translations according to university/CIMEA/Embassy requirements.

SPOUSE & FAMILY

Family reunification is possible, but it is not automatic with a student visa.

Separate family process

A student with a qualifying residence permit can potentially use Italy’s family-reunification framework for spouse and eligible children.

Income requirement

The minimum rises with each family member and is linked to the annual Italian social-allowance amount.

Housing requirement

Applicants need suitable accommodation meeting the applicable housing and occupancy standards.

WORK WHILE STUDYING

Student residence permits allow employment within a 1,040-hour annual ceiling.

20 hours / week

For ordinary salaried employment spread through the year, the student limit is no more than 20 hours per week.

1,040 hours / year

The annual ceiling is 1,040 hours. When work is concentrated into shorter periods, weekly hours can sometimes exceed 20 while the annual cap remains decisive.

Self-employment

Italian guidance also allows self-employed activity for holders of a study residence permit, subject to the applicable legal and administrative requirements.

HEALTH INSURANCE & SSN

Health cover is required for the visa and residence period.

Before entry

Students need suitable medical/hospital insurance for Italy for the visa process.

After arrival

Non-EU students can use qualifying private cover or, where eligible, register voluntarily with Italy’s National Health Service (SSN) under the applicable annual contribution rules.

AFTER STUDY

Graduates can use a job-search residence permit for up to 12 months.

AlternativeConvert directly to work

Study-to-work conversion no longer depends on annual quotas.

Italy removed the old quota restriction for converting a valid study residence permit into employment or self-employment status. If you already have a qualifying job or business route, direct conversion can be possible before the study permit expires.

WORK & LONG-TERM STAY

The long-term route starts when study status becomes a qualifying work/residence status.

Employment permit conversion

A valid student residence permit can be converted into subordinate employment when the legal requirements and employment evidence are met.

Self-employment conversion

Conversion can also be possible for qualifying self-employed activity with the required authorisations and financial resources.

EU Blue Card

Highly qualified employment can use Italy’s EU Blue Card framework when qualification, contract and salary conditions are met.

Long-term EU residence

Long-term residence is a separate pathway based on qualifying legal residence, income and other conditions. A degree does not automatically create permanent status.

CITIES

Italy’s cost and job market vary sharply between north and south.

Milan

Finance, design, engineering and corporate hub with Italy’s highest housing pressure.

Bologna

Major university city with a very international student environment.

Rome

Large public-university ecosystem plus government, tourism, culture and international organisations.

Turin

Engineering, automotive and technology market with Politecnico di Torino.

Padua / Venice region

Strong research, industry and international student options in northeastern Italy.

Pisa / Florence

Research, arts, technology and humanities options with different housing pressures from Milan/Rome.

Your permesso di soggiorno application starts almost immediately.
