Germany in Dhaka represents Estonia only for short Schengen visas

Bangladeshi students applying for an Estonian long-stay D visa or temporary residence permit cannot use the German representation arrangement in Dhaka for that purpose. Estonia requires long-stay applications through an Estonian representation handling them, and the Estonian Embassy in New Delhi accepts D-visa and residence-permit applications by appointment.

BANGLADESH ELIGIBILITY

Estonia has no single national Bangladesh HSC percentage or CGPA cut-off.

Foreign qualifications are assessed for access to the next study level, while the university makes the final admission decision.

HSC

Bangladesh school qualifications can be evaluated for higher-education access.

Estonian ENIC/NARIC assesses foreign qualifications that provide access to higher education and has a dedicated current reference profile for the Bangladesh education system.

ENIC/NARIC

Academic evaluation is free.

The Estonian Education and Youth Board can issue an academic recognition assessment within 30 days once all necessary documents are supplied. Final recognition for admission remains with the higher-education institution.

Documents

Certificates and transcripts matter together.

Recognition normally requires the qualification certificate, official transcript/supplement, identity document and authorised translation where the documents are not in an accepted language.

Masters

A relevant recognised Bachelor is assessed programme by programme.

Universities examine degree level, credits, field match, grades and language. There is no Estonia-wide Bangladesh CGPA threshold.

English

The university decides the accepted English proof.

IELTS, TOEFL and other evidence are programme-specific. The immigration rule is that your proficiency must meet the educational institution’s minimum requirement for the language of instruction.

Regulated professions

Professional recognition is separate.

If your future profession is regulated, recognition by the relevant Estonian competent authority can be required in addition to academic recognition.

The current Estonian MFA long-stay guidance requires evidence of income for the three months immediately before application, showing the amount, regularity and source of funds.

Some older Estonian Embassy pages still display €800/month. The central Ministry of Foreign Affairs long-stay visa page currently lists €880/month for studies, so this guide uses the newer central figure.

TUITION

English-taught programmes range widely by university and field.

Bachelor / Master planning range

Study in Estonia currently gives a broad tuition range of about €1,500–€15,000 per year, with some programmes above that.

Higher-cost fields

Medicine, law, business and some social-science programmes can be among the more expensive options.

Doctoral study

Doctoral studies in Estonia are tuition-free.

Waivers

Some universities offer tuition-free places or programme-specific tuition waivers to strong international applicants.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Estonia has national scholarships plus university funding.

National Master scholarship

For 2026/27, the Estonian national scholarship supports eligible international Master students with €350 per month, subject to the annual eligible-country list.

Bachelor restriction

The national Bachelor degree scholarship is limited to fields related to Estonian language and culture rather than general English-taught Bachelor study.

University scholarships

University of Tartu, TalTech, Tallinn University and other institutions offer programme-specific tuition waivers, performance scholarships or grants.

D VISA + TEMPORARY RESIDENCE PERMIT

Full-degree students ultimately need an Estonian temporary residence permit for study.

01

Admission

Receive acceptance from an Estonian higher-education institution and its immigration/admission documents.

02

Book Estonia New Delhi

Bangladeshi long-stay applicants use an Estonian mission handling D visas/TRPs. The Estonian Embassy in New Delhi accepts both by appointment.

03

D visa for entry

A D visa can be issued for up to 365 days and is commonly used to enter Estonia for study while the longer-term residence setup is completed.

04

Finance

Use the current €880/month study benchmark and show recent evidence explaining the regular source of funds.

05

Insurance

Prepare travel medical insurance for the D visa and qualifying long-term medical insurance for the student residence permit.

06

Public documents

Foreign public documents submitted for the D visa must be legalised or apostilled where applicable and translated into Estonian or English.

07

TRP for study

Full-degree non-EU students need a temporary residence permit for study. It can be issued up to the nominal study period, subject to immigration conditions.

08

Register residence

After receiving the residence permit, register your Estonian place of residence in the Population Register within the required timeframe.

DOCUMENTS · BANGLADESH

Keep academic recognition and immigration documents separate but consistent.

Academic recognition

Qualification certificate, transcript/supplement, identity document, prior post-secondary qualifications for higher-degree evaluation and authorised translations where required.

University admission

SSC/HSC or prior degree records, programme application, English evidence, motivation, references and any institution-specific interview/test.

D visa

Passport, application form, photo, admission evidence, insurance, recent financial evidence, family/biographical forms, travel booking and legalised/apostilled public documents where required.

Temporary residence permit

Admission, proof of sufficient legal income, long-term health insurance, language-of-instruction evidence and the other Police and Border Guard Board documents applicable to study.

SPOUSE & FAMILY

Children can join sooner than a spouse under the ordinary student route.

Child

Study in Estonia states that a child can apply for a temporary residence permit when the student parent holds an Estonian residence permit.

Spouse

Under the ordinary rule, the spouse can apply for a temporary residence permit after the student has lived in Estonia on a temporary residence permit for at least 2 years.

Income and housing

Family residence requires genuine family life, sufficient permanent legal income and registered/actual housing in Estonia.

Official student family guidance ↗
WORK WHILE STUDYING

Estonia does not impose a fixed weekly hour limit on full-time international students.

No additional work permit

A student residence permit allows employment in Estonia without a separate employment permit.

No fixed hour cap

The law does not set a standard 20- or 30-hour weekly maximum for these students.

But study progress is mandatory

Employment must not interfere with studies. Students need to maintain the required study load, passing results and nominal study progression.

Dropping behind can affect residence

If the study programme is not completed to the legally required extent, the study residence permit can be affected or expire under the Aliens Act.

Official international student work guidance ↗
HEALTH INSURANCE

A student residence permit does not automatically put a non-EU student into Estonia’s national health fund.

TRP requirement

Non-EU students must hold medical insurance that covers treatment costs for the period required by the residence-permit rules.

Tervisekassa

Study in Estonia warns that simply holding a study residence permit does not itself give Estonian Health Insurance Fund coverage. Employment can change your insurance position depending on social-tax conditions.

AFTER STUDY

Graduates get 270 days of legal stay after the study residence permit expires.

You can use this period to move into employment status.

Study in Estonia describes the post-study period as additional time to find a job and apply for a temporary residence permit for employment. Estonia’s Aliens Act provides the 270-day legal-stay basis after expiry of the study residence permit.

WORK & LONG-TERM STAY

The graduate period is a bridge into Estonia’s employment residence system.

Employment residence permit

Graduates who obtain qualifying employment can move into the appropriate temporary residence permit for employment.

EU Blue Card

Highly qualified employment can use Estonia’s EU Blue Card route where qualification and salary conditions are met.

Start-up / entrepreneurship

Estonia has separate residence routes for start-up entrepreneurship and business where the statutory conditions are met.

Long-term resident status

Long-term residence is a separate pathway based on qualifying legal residence, income, insurance, integration and other conditions. A degree alone does not guarantee it.

CITIES

Tallinn leads employment. Tartu leads the classic university experience.

Tallinn

Technology, cyber security, fintech, start-ups, business and the largest international employment market.

Tartu

University-centred research city with strong science, health, software and student life.

Pärnu

Smaller coastal city with tourism, service-sector and regional study options.

Narva / regional Estonia

Lower-scale living costs and specialised study environments, but a smaller English-speaking graduate labour market.

ARRIVAL

Residence registration and university setup should happen quickly.

Before departure

Passport, D visa where applicable, admission, insurance, finance evidence and accommodation.

University registration

Complete enrolment, student account, orientation and residence-permit coordination with the university.

Population Register

After obtaining the residence permit, register your place of residence within the required period.

Work & insurance

You can work without a separate student work permit, but protect your full-time study progress and confirm your health-insurance position before relying on employment coverage.
