Student work is not automatic and the hour limit is not the same for everyone

D-2 students need advance part-time employment permission. Allowed hours depend on degree level, year of study, TOPIK or equivalent Korean proficiency, academic performance and whether the university has IEQAS accreditation. Working first and asking later can jeopardise immigration status.

BANGLADESH ELIGIBILITY

South Korea uses university-level admissions rather than one national Bangladesh cut-off.

Bachelor

High-school graduation or equivalent is the national baseline.

Korean higher education requires completion of secondary education equivalent to Korean high school. International admission commonly applies to students whose parents are both non-Korean citizens or who completed their full 12-year school education outside Korea.

Bangladesh HSC

SSC and HSC form the core school record.

Bangladeshi applicants normally submit SSC/HSC certificates and transcripts, while each university decides grades, subject prerequisites and document verification.

Masters

A Bachelor or recognised equivalent is required.

Graduate schools assess degree level, subject fit, grades, research preparation and language. There is no Korea-wide Bangladesh CGPA threshold.

Korean-taught

TOPIK matters academically and later for work.

TOPIK requirements vary by university and programme. Strong Korean can also materially increase permitted student work hours.

English-taught

IELTS / TOEFL rules are institution-specific.

Many STEM, business and graduate programmes are partly or fully English-taught. The Bangladesh visa checklist currently requests an approved IELTS or TOEFL certificate within two years.

Final certificates

Document authenticity matters.

The Embassy and universities can require authenticated final academic documents. Korea’s 2026 GKS graduate notice for Bangladesh uses Bangladesh MFA e-Apostille for required civil and educational documents.

KOREAN HIGHER EDUCATION

Four-year universities, junior colleges and graduate schools serve different routes.

Universities

Most Bachelor programmes last four years, while medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary programmes can be longer.

Junior colleges

Associate degrees normally run for two years, with selected health and technical fields running for three years.

Graduate schools

Master and doctoral study usually begins from two years, with integrated graduate programmes also available.

Korean language institutes

University language centres typically use D-4 status rather than the D-2 degree-student visa.

IEQAS CERTIFICATION

University quality status can affect immigration treatment.

International Education Quality Assurance System

Each year the Korean Ministry of Education and Ministry of Justice certify institutions with strong international-student recruitment, support and management.

Why it matters

IEQAS-certified universities can receive relaxed visa-screening treatment and qualifying students can receive additional weekday part-time work allowances.

VisaDo not file lateDhaka Embassy asks student applications to be submitted at least 5 days before the academic term begins.
TOPIK · IELTS · TOEFL

Language affects admission, scholarships and legal work hours.

Korean-taught programmes

TOPIK Level 3 or 4 is a common admission range, but universities and departments set their own standards.

English-taught programmes

IELTS and TOEFL requirements vary. Some universities accept prior English-medium education or alternative evidence.

Part-time work

For Bachelor years 1–2, TOPIK Level 3-equivalent is the important proficiency threshold for the more favourable work allowance. Years 3–4 generally use TOPIK Level 4. Graduate study uses Level 4-equivalent.

MONEY & FINANCIAL EVIDENCE

Korea does not use one Bangladesh-wide fixed bank-balance number on the Dhaka checklist.

Dhaka Embassy financial file

Bank historyLast 6 months
Bank solvencyRequired
Tax return historyLast 2 years
Tuition paymentUniversity certificate

Source of money matters.

The Bangladesh Embassy checklist asks for the student’s or guarantor’s financial capacity through bank solvency, six months of bank statements, tax certificate, two years of tax returns and tax challans, plus sponsor employment or trade-licence evidence.

The university can also set a specific minimum financial proof amount for issuing the admission or visa-support documents. Use that university figure together with the Bangladesh Embassy checklist rather than relying on one generic agency number.

GLOBAL KOREA SCHOLARSHIP · GKS

Bangladesh receives dedicated GKS quotas.

2026 Graduate GKS · Bangladesh

The 2026 Embassy Track allocated 7 places to Bangladesh. University Track had a further 20 places across General and R-GKS routes.

2026 Undergraduate GKS

The Bangladesh Embassy Track had 3 places: 2 General and 1 R-GKS.

What GKS supports

Government scholarship benefits include airfare, tuition, Korean-language training and a monthly living allowance under the applicable annual guideline.

Document rules matter

For the 2026 graduate cycle, Bangladesh applicants were instructed to upload civil and educational documents with Bangladesh MFA e-Apostille and final educational certificates.

Police / TB / English

Recent Bangladesh Police Clearance Certificate, designated-centre TB test and approved IELTS or TOEFL certificate where required by the checklist.

SPOUSE & FAMILY

D-2 students can potentially bring a spouse and unmarried minor children on F-3.

Eligible dependants

Current Korean F-3 rules include the spouse and unmarried minor child of a D-2 student among eligible accompanying-family categories.

Bangladesh Embassy file

The 2026 Dhaka F-3 checklist asks for invitation/guarantee documents, the student’s residence card and passport, housing contract, enrolment certificate, six months of bank statements and income evidence.

Spouse work is not automatic

F-3 is a dependant status, not an unrestricted employment visa. A spouse should not plan ordinary employment without first obtaining a status or permission that legally permits the intended work.

2026 Dhaka F-3 checklist ↗
WORK WHILE STUDYING

TOPIK and university quality can materially change your permitted work hours.

Permission first

D-2 students need confirmation from the university’s international-student adviser and advance part-time employment permission from immigration.

Bachelor

Without the relevant Korean proficiency, the basic table can be as low as 10 hours/week. With the required proficiency, the standard weekday allowance can reach 25 hours, and qualifying students at accredited universities can reach 30 hours.

Master / Doctoral

The basic table starts at 15 hours for students not meeting the Korean threshold. With TOPIK Level 4-equivalent it can reach 30 hours, and qualifying accredited-university students can reach 35 hours.

Weekends / vacations

Qualifying students with the required Korean proficiency can receive more favourable or unlimited weekend/vacation treatment under the current table, depending on programme and university status.

Never treat “30 hours” as an automatic right. The exact permission written by immigration for your D-2 status, programme, TOPIK level and institution controls what you may work.

NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE

D-2 students are included in Korea’s National Health Insurance framework.

NHIS enrolment

Study visa holders are among the foreign-resident categories covered by Korea’s National Health Insurance system under the applicable enrolment timing and contribution rules.

Student reduction

NHIS provides contribution reductions for D-2 and D-4 students under current policy. Confirm the current monthly bill and reduction after registration because rates can change.

AFTER STUDY · D-10

Korean graduates can move into D-10 job-seeking status.

D-10 job-seeking route

Extensions6 months at a time
Maximum job-seeking periodUp to 2 years
InternshipUp to 1 year total
Per company internshipUp to 6 months

First change from D-2 has a finance advantage.

Study in Korea states that applicants changing from D-2 to D-10 for the first time are exempt from the ordinary proof-of-financial-stability document. Other D-10 applicants use the current benchmark of KRW 900,000/month for six months.

Official D-10 guidance ↗
WORK & LONG-TERM STAY

D-10 is a bridge into Korea’s professional employment statuses.

E-7 Specific Activities

Many international graduates move into E-7 where the job, degree, occupation and employer meet Korea’s professional-employment conditions.

Research / technical routes

Depending on field and employer, E-1 to E-5 or other specialist statuses can apply instead of E-7.

Points / residence routes

Longer-term residence can later involve points-based or other F-status pathways where income, Korean ability, education and residence conditions are met.

No automatic PR

A Korean degree and D-10 period do not automatically create permanent residence. The later employment and residence status matters.

CITIES

Seoul dominates opportunity, but regional Korea can improve cost and scholarship value.

Seoul

Largest university, corporate, technology, finance and international employment market, with Korea’s highest housing pressure.

Daejeon

Research, science and technology hub with KAIST, government research institutes and universities including Woosong.

Busan

Major port city with logistics, maritime, tourism, business and large universities.

Daegu

Regional education, manufacturing, healthcare and technology centre with lower living costs than Seoul.

Gwangju

Research, automotive, energy and regional-university environment.

Pohang

Science, engineering and advanced-industry ecosystem centred strongly around POSTECH and manufacturing.

ARRIVAL

Your first 90 days establish your legal student life in Korea.

Before departure

Passport, D-2 visa, admission, tuition evidence, accommodation and copies of the financial/academic visa file.

University registration

Complete enrolment, student ID, dormitory/local address, orientation and international-office registration.

Within 90 days

Complete foreigner registration and obtain the residence card if staying more than 90 days.

Before any job

Secure the employment contract, university confirmation and immigration part-time work permission. Do not begin first and apply afterwards.
